Everybody knows their famous "Aaaahhh! Freak Out!"! Formed in 1977, Chic has raised disco music to new levels and had a strong influence on the next generation! You must have - at least once - had one of their hits stuck in your head "Good Times", "I Want Your Love" or "Dance, Dance, Dance"!
And more than that, band's founder and guitarist Nile Rodgers has given a real contribution to the music industry. He has worked along with the greatest artists and has produced some all-time classics such as "Let's Dance" for David Bowie and "Like a Virgin" for Madonna.
In 2006, Rodgers served as co-musical director for the tribute concert to Ahmet Ertegün at the Montreux Jazz Festival. The concert included performances by Chic, Robert Plant, Kid Rock, Ben E. King, Chaka Khan, George Duke (co-music director), Paolo Nutini and many other artists who were signed to Ertegün's Atlantic Records. (watch the pictures)
Nile Rodgers also came twice as a headliner to perform at the Festival with his band Chic where they turned the Auditorium Stravinski into a real disco dance floor. (watch pictures). Great news: he is also the first musician to be confirmed at the Disco Night in 2012. More information on that concert at the programme announcement, in April!
Here the video of the first single off Chic's eponymous début: "Dance, Dance, Dance" performed when they first came to Montreux in 2004:
