On december 4 1971, the Casino of Montreux burnt, during a Frank Zappa concert.

This accident inspired Deep Purple, who were recording "Machine Head" in Montreux at that time. They wrote their biggest hit "Smoke on the Water".

To celebrate this anniversary - a sad event that nonetheless gave the Festival a hymn - the book "Live from Montreux" will be available for CHF150.-, with an exclusive DVD "Live at Montreux Collection" featuring concert extracts from Jamiroquai, Santana, Nina Simone and the world famous "Smoke on the Water" by Deep Purple.
