Originally a jazz band, Kool & The Gang was called, successively, The Jazziacs, The New Dimensions, The Soul Town Band, and then Kool & The Flames. They finally made one last change to Kool & The Gang to avoid confusion with James Brown’s band, The Famous Flames.
